What Is YOUR Role In the IEDA?
Posted by Kristen Williams in the News Blog
Someone once said, “If you always do what ya’ always done, you’ll always get what ya’ always got.” I think this quote is meaningful because it is actually fitting for various areas of one’s life…whether it be relationships, financial success, exercise, eating habits, your approach to running your own business…you name it. As for how it relates to your company’s role in the IEDA, it means that like many things, you will get out of it what you put into it.
I have heard over the course of the last two years as I speak to current members and attempt to recruit past ones different opinions about the value of the organization and how an expense of $1000 a year annually can be justified. I have been told, “I was a member a few years back and I just didn’t get anything out of it.” My response to this comment is consistently, “Well, what did you put into it?”
The IEDA, like any support network for an industry, exists for the benefit of the member companies. The Board of Directors works consistently to continually develop and enhance the benefits we offer to the members and to expand the group overall in an effort to increase the opportunity to network. Over the course of the last two years, we have tripled the membership of the IEDA, re-launched the association website, implemented a user-friendly online networking platform, increased the Associate Member base, and have held more frequent social events so members can shake hands. Currently, we are in the process of developing standardized inspection reports, developing the website so members can request quotes/information online and putting plans into place to offer additional educational opportunities throughout the calendar year.
As an IEDA member, I hope you are realizing the value of this organization and taking advantage of the benefits that are being offered to you. After all, the IEDA is in existence to facilitate networking and help you as a business owner to “expand your circle of influence” and increase your bottom line. Make it a priority in 2012 to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Network, offer an opinion, participate, attend events and watch as you get out of the IEDA what you put into it.
