Kentucky House Passes $3.5B Budget to Build Roads, Bridges

Narrow country roads bounded by stone and wood plank fences are a fixture in the Kentucky.FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) The House has passed a two-year, $3.5 billion transportation budget that would pay for road and bridge construction across the state.

That action came the morning of March 16 on an 88-4 vote one day after the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee sent it to the floor.

The plan would funnel money to several major projects already under way, including widening dangerous stretches of Interstate 65 in western Kentucky and the Mountain Parkway in the east.

It also provides a portion of the money needed to build two new Ohio River bridges in Louisville.
